Packaging for large framed photos

It’s extremely important you package your large framed photos and canvases appropriately. After all, does a jeweller hand you a diamond necklace in a brown paper bag?

Finally! After about 18 months of sporadic (but rigorous!) searching I’ve found some high quality packaging for large framed family photos.

I’m a huge advocate of portrait photographers focusing on creating framed portraits of a decent size for their clients to display on their walls.  After all, it’s the best way for them to get the most enjoyment out of their photographs because they can see them every day as they go about their daily life, unlike CDs that get slung in a draw or gets used to print some little 8x10s from the local high street lab. Of course the other great thing about decent sized wall portraits is you also get paid more. It’s a win-win. This website has a huge amount of information to help you achieve that goal.

That said, I’ve trudged endless internet miles on a quest to find packaging for large framed photos and canvases so our clients can receive them in packaging that’s befitting of such a high value and treasured heirloom.

Bubble wrap and parcel tape just doesn’t cut it!

Everywhere I looked the packaging sizes never got any larger than 20×16.  My business is built on selling 30×20 and beyond. It’s what I specialise in. It’s what wows my clients.

Initially the only packaging I could find that was large enough for the framed family portraits was a packing box for a 50 inch flat screen TV. But again, a large brown cardboard box doesn’t set the right tone, does it?

Nor does simply handing them the portrait(s) with no protection at all. If a client has just paid you many hundreds or thousands of pounds / dollars for gorgeous portraits they’re going to expect some decent packaging. After all, Tiffanys don’t hand their jewellery out in a brown paper bag!

Finally, I’ve found packaging for portraits up to 46×36 inches, although they do other sizes too.

They’re sturdy fabric bags you can print your logo on so they scream professionalism. The bags are so nice no-one is going to throw them away when they get home. Your logo and strapline will be getting marched all over town giving you free advertising! Most people haven’t seen a 46×36 inch bag, so your clients will get asked about it all the time.

OK, ok, I’ll tell you where to get them! Tyndell photographic packaging. The staff there were fantastic – very helpful, friendly and responsive. Special credit goes to Yvonne and Kimberly.

Worldwide delivery

They’re based in the United States, but they do ship overseas. Even with the shipping and your logo printed on them the cost is under £10 per bag. Just beware that you’ll probably get charged import tax if you’re not in the US – mine was about £100! Again, my whole order of 50 bags came in at under £10 per bag. It’s a big investment, but if you care about the image of your photography business and offering a quality experience then packaging is critical. It’s essentially only £10-£20 per client and my leatherette CD cases cost that anyway!
